How to get the Teacher package


 Simple: click on the relevant app store icon at the bottom of this page and download the app.

Sign in with your school email account, and follow the steps to set up your first classroom.

You can start using Smata straight away.


The Smata Teacher package is free but is limited to 2 teachers in a school.


It provides you with the full version of the Smata App, which means you can

  • Easily add observation entries
  • Easily review observation data, and use it to support reflection and planning
  • Easily create and share learning stories based on observation entries.

How to Subscribe to the Team package


It’s best to start with the Teacher package and then graduate to the Team package.


The Team package opens up the full Smata experience:

  • Access to both the Smata App and Smata Web Portal
  • Learning analytics drawn from app use across the team, easily filtered for learning insights
  • Admin controls to help you manage access and use
  • Lots of exciting updates coming down the pipeline


Team package pricing

Pay each month: $20/teacher/month.

Pay for a year upfront: $15/teacher/month.

The Smata Portal

Designed with school leaders in mind, the Smata Portal draws together the observation data made in the Smata App from across the school. This supports

  • Strategic decision making
  • Identification of teacher professional development needs
  • Promoting assessment for learning


The Smata Portal also has some basic admin controls

  • Upload student rolls so that teachers can more easily set up classrooms in the Smata App
  • Edit student details
  • Control teacher permissions (eg, who has access to the Portal)
  • Invite teachers to download the Smata App
